The Quick Opinion: Bryce Harper

By:Robb Johnson

Welcome back to the quick opinion where I give you a quick opinion on a sports subject. My topic today deals with the Washington Nationals, specifically Bryce Harper. When I look at Bryce Harper and the way he plays baseball, along with the way the Nationals have been going I see a few things. The first thing I see is similarly lefty like Barry Bonds with hair, that continues to get his team to the playoffs and is far and away the best player on the team. I see an outfielder with speed and love for the game. Here are some facts when it comes to both players in their first six years, along with other little things.

1. Where were they from?
2. Home runs hit?
3. Games played?
4. RBI hit?
5. Teams Record?
6. Conclusion

Barry Bonds

1. California

2. 142

3. 870

4. 453

5. 496, two first place finishes

In his seventh year after the 1992 season signed with the Giants.

Bryce Harper
1. Las Vegas

2. 150

3. 768

4. 421

5. 555, four first place finishes

Bryce Harper will become a free-agent in his eighth year in 2019 with the Nationals

I bring these similarities up for one reason, Nationals fans are frustrated by the lack of post season success. This is very understandable, but just go back and look at the history of the Pirates after Bonds left. Before you get upset, just look at the Nationals record before Harper. He is not perfect and still has to grow in many ways. But he is a damn good player, and if he leaves you may not be able to replace him. When it’s gone it’s gone, so enjoy the ride and the memories. Because you never know if you will ever get those good times back again. Be blessed that you are possibly looking at the second coming of the greatest baseball player in American history.
