The season hasn’t gone the way ODU would want it to go. Honestly, the season hasn’t gone the way they would have expected it to go either. After winning their home opener and getting to 1-1, the Monarchs haven’t won a game since and now find themselves in a hole at 1-4. This hole may be hard to get out from as the road only gets harder here on out. Many people believe defense wins games. Well ODU once again had a horrible performance defensively in this matchup. They were down 21-7 at halftime and the game seemed to be over. I think we all can agree the Monarchs play better in the second half. Despite them losing this game, the final score was 28-21. Yes, ODU only allowed 7 Points in the second half and the offense picked itself up too.

DJ Mack Jr has been solid this year. He has proven he is the best option at QB for this team. While he has shown skill to make plays in the pocket, this offense is much better when he’s making plays with his legs too. If he’s given that green light make plays with his arm and to run and make plays with his legs throughout the whole game, I think that will open up this offense a bit more especially early on. These slow starts have been the achilles heel for ODU and at this point, it’s really cost them the season sitting at 1-4. While there’s still a little time left to turn things around, time is definitely of the essence. ODU has to get going early and they have to play better defensively for both halfs beginning next week as they travel to Marshall to face the 2-3 Thundering Herd.
