3 Reasons to Keep Cam Newton out the Pre-Season (8-16-19)

The Carolina Panther’s season begun Thursday August 8th in an exhibition game vs. The Cincinatti Bengals. The Panthers marched to Cincinatti and defeated the Bengals, only without QB Cam Newton. Newton has been banged up dating back to week 10 of last season as he nor the Panthers were the same during the final games due to a shoulder injury. Any win is a good win, and The Panthers need all the momentum they can get particularly because they loss 7 of their last 8 games last year. So what can we expect from The Panthers this season? Most importantly, what can we expect from Cam Newton? Well, the Panthers didn’t even allow the idea to let Newton play in their Pre-Season Opener. While it hasn’t been announced yet, we all can expect Newton to be sidelined the entire preseason and for good reason too.

Cam Newton’s injury bug is quite the critter, but he’s one of the toughest players in the league. He played through the shoulder injury last season. And while weathering the storm while being hurt, they didn’t win. However, the best ability is availability and Cam was there. He sat out the last 2 games only because they were out of playoff contention. Any Coach would love to coach Newton. So with that being said, you have to protect your most valuable asset. It’s best to keep him sidelined. Another reason to do so is because Cam Newton is a veteran. He’s no rookie to this game. In fact, he is a former MVP and he also played in the Super Bowl as well. Newton is in his prime. At the age of 30, Newton is ready to take the next step. And he has help too. Christian McCaffrey, Cameron Artis-Payne, a healthy Greg Olsen, the Speedster DJ Moore, and not to mention the veteran Torrey Smith. This team has all the weapons just waiting for Cam Newton to deliver. And last but not least, the 3rd reason to keep Cam Newton out the preseason is the QB Market is pretty bad at the moment. If there was a devastating injury with Cam Newton, they probably would be forced to make a trade just to acquire a worthy backup QB. Doing so would give up an asset which would hurt them in the long run. So here are my thoughts.

If this team stays healthy, they will be dangerous. Before the Cam Newton injury, this team was 6-2. The bottom line is this: If you keep Newton healthy and protected, you will make the playoffs.
