The Virginia Tech Hokies traveled down to Chapel Hill this weekend to take on the North Carolina Tarheels. While the players and coaches made the trip down, they left their game back in Blacksburg as the Tarheels trampled the Hokies 41-10.
The Hokies played their worst game under Head Coach Brent Pry against the Tarheels. They couldn’t muster much on the offensive end as Grant Wells had another underwhelming performance. Wells went 16 of 26 for 139 yards and an interception, he did score the lone Hokies touchdown of the game a 2-yard scamper. The Tarheels kept the Virginia Tech ground game in check as well with Keshawn King only managing 52 yards on the day.
The Hokies’ defense wasn’t much better as they allowed a season-high 41 points and 527 yards of total offense. The Hokie pass rush didn’t record a single sack in the game, the first time all season. Brent Pry and this defensive unit know they are better than what they showed this past Saturday and I’m sure he’ll remind them of that they look forward to their next game..
At 2-3, the Hokies are on the road again next week as they travel up north to take on the Pitt Panthers. This conference matchup should light some fire under the Hokies. They’ll need it as they enter the matchup against the Panther as heavy underdogs. Hokies best shot at winning will be pounding the ball on the ground, minimizing turnovers, and stout play from their defense
