The New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards have agreed to a four-player deal that will send veteran guard CJ McCollum, center Kelly Olynyk, and a future second-round pick to D.C. in exchange for guard Jordan Poole, forward Saddiq Bey, and the 40th overall pick in this year’s draft.
New Orleans Receives:
● Jordan Poole
● Saddiq Bey
● 2025 40th overall pick
Washington Receives:
● CJ McCollum
● Kelly Olynyk
● Future second-round pick
After acquiring Poole in the offseason of 2023, Washington has moved Poole to New Orleans now as they look to prioritize the young pieces on their roster moving forward. The Wizards will lean on guards Bub Carrington and AJ Johnson to continue their development into the 2025-26 season.
McCollum joins veteran Khris Middleton, looking to provide leadership for the young roster and mold a competitive culture within the franchise.
McCollum averaged 21.1 points on 44.4% field goal shooting, and 37.3% three-point shooting, with 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists. McCollum has still shown he’s a proven scorer who can create for himself and spot up and shoot. Olynyk is a stretch-big who can help stretch the floor for a team that ranked second-to-last in the league behind the arc.
Washington will have approximately $100 million in cap space in the summer of 2026, as Middleton and McCollum’s deals both expire after this season. The potential to add a star or more pieces to complement the young core that they are already building now makes it interesting to take shape.
