The Virginia Cavaliers (2-1) hosted the Stanford Cardinal (1-2) on Saturday in their first-ever matchup. Stanford was coming off their first win of the season vs Boston College 30-20. The Cavaliers entered the game after defeating William and Mary 55-16 last weekend. Both teams were looking to keep their win streaks intact.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a huge 21-7 lead in the first quarter. All three touchdowns for the Cavaliers came from the Chandler Morris/Trell Harris connection. The Cavaliers would go on to outscore 27-13 the rest of the game. Winning in impressive fashion 48-20 to move to 3-1 on the season for the second straight year.

Chandler Morris accounted for five touchdowns for Virginia. Morris went 23-for-31, 380 yards passing, 4 passing touchdowns with one rushing touchdown. Morris tied his career high of five total touchdowns. While at North Texas, Morris also had five TDs against Tulsa and South Alabama in 2024. The Cavaliers look to have a quarterback who could really help them build this season.

Trell Harris finished with career highs in receiving yards (145) and touchdown receptions (3). His 75-yard reception in the first quarter was the longest of his career & the longest pass play by the Cavaliers since 2023. Harris is the first Virginia wide receiver with three touchdowns in a game since Olamide Zaccheaus hauled in three scores in the 2018 Belk Bowl against South Carolina. Since 1995, only four Cavaliers have had three receiving touchdowns in a game – Harris, Zaccheaus, Canaan Severin (2015 at Louisville), and Wali Lundy (2003 at NC State)

For the first time under Head Coach Tony Elliott, the Cavaliers look primed to make some noise in the ACC this season. Virginia which entered Saturday’s contest as the nation’s leader in total touchdowns, finished with six to bring its total on the season to 23. Virginia’s offense finished with 590 yards of total offense, including 384 yards through the air. It marks the second time this season that UVA’s offense recorded at least 590 yards. Elliott has the Virginia offer putting up big numbers to start this season.

The Cavaliers (3-1) will stay at home this week and host #8 Florida State Seminoles (8-0) on Friday, September 26 at 7 PM. Please make sure to check out the LegacyMaker Sports Network coverage of that game.
