JMU Dominates ODU, 46-20, to Open Sun Belt Play with a Statement Victory (9-26-26)

NORFOLK, Va. — September 26, 2026 — James Madison continued its undefeated start Saturday night, defeating in-state rival Old Dominion 46-20 at S.B. Ballard Stadium in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry.
The Dukes improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, combining an explosive passing attack with a relentless defensive performance.
Quarterback Camden Coleman set the tone early, throwing two first-quarter touchdowns. He connected with Cole Keller for a three-yard score before finding Michael Scott for a 20-yard touchdown, giving JMU a 14-0 advantage.
Coleman added two more touchdown passes in the second quarter, connecting with Jeremiah Harrison and Corey Scott. The Dukes carried a 30-17 lead into halftime.
While Old Dominion attempted to stay within striking distance, JMU’s defense controlled the line of scrimmage. The Dukes recorded nine sacks, tying their program’s FBS record, and held the Monarchs to minus-14 rushing yards.
JMU extended its advantage with three second-half field goals from Morgan Suarez. Running back Seth Cromwell added a one-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
Coleman finished with 243 passing yards and four touchdowns. George Pettaway powered the ground game with 110 rushing yards on 16 carries, while Suarez connected on all four of his field-goal attempts.
The victory marked JMU’s 24th consecutive win against in-state opponents and its fifth win over ODU since joining the Sun Belt.
