Spiders fall short to the Dukes 74-68 (1-16-19)

RICHMOND,VA-Richmond’s Grant Golden won the tip for Spiders but they quickly lost possession of the ball and that would foreshadow this rest of the game. After a few empty possessions, the Dukes came back and were able to score the first points of the game. The Dukes press shut down Grant Golden and Jacob Gilyard early in this contest. Eventually, Both teams would started to settle into this game with a little over twelve minutes to go in the first half. Noah Yates of the Spiders would help pick up the pace in the ballgame, knocked down the first three pointer of the game. The Dukes were able to follow it up with there own three pointer from Tavian Dunn-Martin tying the game at 9-9. With four minutes to go, The Spiders are holding their largest lead of the game till this point 26-21. Great defense by the Spiders helped them end the first period with a 4-point lead 32-28 over Duquesne.
Both teams came out in the second period taking their games to the next level. The Dukes are tried everything they could to get points on the board. They come into tonight’s game with an 11-5 overall & 2-1 record in the Atlantic 10. Duquesne would go on a 9-0 run that would give them a 48-47 lead with a little over eleven minutes to go in the second half. For the next several minutes both the Dukes and the Spiders would battle back in forth taking a one point leads. With a little over seven and half minutes to go, Nathan Cayo’s 23 points and Jacob Gilyard’s 22 points keep the Spiders afloat the entire game Sincere Carry 21 points and Frankie Hughes with 15 points would not back down showing why Duquesne has been so tough this year.
With the game officially tied at 57 with a little over five minutes to go, the Dukes were in foul trouble putting them in the bonus. But the Dukes were able to persevere despite a back and forth battle would fight their way to 74-68 victory. Richmond would fall to 7-10 on the season and 1-3 in Atlantic 10. Duquesne would get their 12th win of the season and 3 in Atlantic 10 play.
