The Kaep Show

Colin Kaepernik is back on the scene. Kaep and his agent Jeff Nalley originally had a workout scheduled over the weekend in Atlanta at the Falcon’s Stadium. However, the NFL wasn’t going to allow media access, so they moved the workout to a high school 60 miles away so the media could join in on the fun. Kaepernik didn’t show off anything that was jaw dropping or even eye popping. He was simply just the same Colin Kaepernik we saw some years ago. The only difference is his hair which puts you in the mindset of Doctor J and his age which none of us can seem to escape besides Tom Brady. The question is does Colin Kaepernik really want to play? That is up for debate. If he does play, he probably will need a specialized helmet judging with the amount of hair he has. All of the hoopla started from a simple kneel. We’re about 3 or 4 years removed from everything and it is still being discussed. Why are we living in the past? Why are we just now trying to make a comeback? There are so many teams that are now set at QB. If a team does need a QB, chances are they’re not a competitive team and they will have a good draft pick. In that instance, they can just grab their future franchise QB then in the draft. The NFL is obviously against having Colin Kaepernik in the league. They can’t get pass the past. The Shield is controlling a lot of things here and Colin Kaepernik seems like an old dog trying to learn a new trick. Kaepernik’s NFL days are behind him.

Jimmy G to the Rescue

One of the hardest things to do is follow in someone’s footsteps who did good things in life. Daddy was a Doctor, or Mommy was a Teacher, the list goes on. Well try playing behind Tom Brady and being his backup. Try playing well while filling in for Brady for a just a couple of games, expectations become even more strenuous. You can ask Matt Cassel all about this. He was the guy that started for Brady after he hurt his knee and just didn’t live up to expectations after that. Playing behind a great player and filling in when needed is tough. Jimmy Garoppolo hasn’t necessarily been great this season. Far from a pro bowler, I believe he learned a lot last week when San Francisco suffered their first loss of the season in Seattle. Not having his number 1 weapon George Kittle isn’t an excuse. The NFL is a next man up league. The bottom line is this. The 49ers are a very special team. We haven’t seen defense played this well in years. The running game is Grade A even without a top caliber RB. They don’t have the best WR and your greatest weapon in the passing game is a TE. That can hurt you. However, great QB play can make or break you and in instances like this, great QB can overcome and ignore not having a great receiving core. If you don’t believe me ask Tom Brady. Jimmy G is the X-Factor here. He balled out in this divisional matchup vs. the Arizona Cardinals and he ultimately won them the game. If he can step up in big moments and be the man when need be, this team will make a Super Bowl run.

Have you ever been in a relationship and things gotten off to a rocky start? It happens from time to time. They say when you’re with someone things can be going smooth, but once you move in together, you see the real person. Maybe they’re junky. They leave their clothes laying everywhere, you can never find the remote, and the toilet seat is always left up. Or maybe they’re always dropping things, simply breaking and tearing up the whole house. People do change you know. We are all imperfect, and we all have things to work on. You decide to leave the relationship and all of those flaws have been addressed and now, they’re like a brand new person. What you’ll probably be told is your loss and what you will soon realize is it’s cheaper to keep her. The Chicago Bears had a national televised game in LA playing the Rams. They loss 17-7 but the storyline in this loss was that Mitch Trubisky was benched late in the game. Reports were mentioned that Trubisky suffered a hip injury and that’s what led to him exiting the game. That may very well be true. But Trubisky has struggled this season and he doesn’t look like the franchise QB we saw flashes of last season. Trubisky will be fighting for his job next season. Don’t be surprised if the Bears draft a QB in June next year because in this instance it may not be cheaper to keep her like Johnnie Taylor said.

Growing Pains in DC

Going to work every day and having a new boss every 3 months can be EXTREMELY challenging and troubling. New voices and people telling you what to do when half the time they don’t even know what to do and how to do it their own selves. When you have to train your new boss things can really become agitating. The Redskins have had a ton of QB’s over the years. From Rex Grossman, RG3 and Kirk Cousins, Colt McCoy, Alex Smith, Case keenum, and now Dwayne Haskins. Well the new guy that’s taking the lead is a rookie. Dwayne Haskins has his hands full. His counterparts taking the lead in this offense are yet 2 other rookies, RB Derrius Guice and WR Terry McLaurin. This offense has had its fair share of issues over the years and Dwayne Haskins is fully aware of it. It’s his sole job to deliver the ball where it needs to be. Time is of the essence. Knowing so, Haskins was seen pleading with his O-Line for more time in the pocket. More time of protection will be the key for this team, especially Dwayne Haskins. This plead from Dwayne Haskins will earn the trust and respect of his teammates and this team. The Warriors of the NBA we saw over the years didn’t happen overnight. The Patriots we’ve been seeing didn’t happen overnight. So this possible Redskins dynasty won’t happen overnight. The Redskins have key players in key positions. Now they must address the defense and find the right guy at the Head Coaching slot. There will be growing pains for the Redskins, so the key will be to have patience for this team.
