The Virginia Cavaliers hosted the #4 team in the country the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Virginia came into the contest with a 3-9 record and a 3-game losing streak. The Cavaliers also had to deal with 4 canceled/postponed games as well during this stretch, and this couldn’t help this UVA team build any momentum or chemistry. Cavs Head Coach Tina Thompson was hoping her team could turn things around against one of the toughest teams in the nation, NC State and this will not be an easy task. The Wolfpack have only suffered two losses on the season while collecting 14 wins along the way. Led by Senior Center, Elissa Cunane, the Wolfpack look to contend for a national championship this season. Cunane comes off being named National Player of the Week by ESPN.com and will give the Cavaliers all they can handle. Here’s the breakdown of the action.

The Cavaliers started this contest with tons of energy on both sides of the floor leading the Cavs to an early 15-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, NC State cause six Cavaliers turnovers which help them take the lead 29-20 at the half. The second half would be all Wolfpack. NC State would outscore Virginia 37-23 in the 3rd & 4th quarters to give them a 66-43 victory to move to 15-2 on the season. Elissa Cunane lead NC State with 10 points & 10 rebounds grabbing her 4th double-double this season. UVA’s Amandine Toi lead all scorers with 14 points.

Virginia’s (3-10,0-3 ACC) next matchup will be against Syracuse on Sunday, January 16 at 1 PM at John Paul Jones Arena.
