Saturday, September 10th the Hampton Pirates jumped on their home field at Armstrong Stadium ready to take on the division II Tuskegee Golden Tigers.

The Pirates’ defense got things rolling as Junior corner Stanley Garner picked off Tuskegee QB Ryan Nettles’ pass for a 30-yard return into the red zone. The turnover set up a Malcolm Mays 5-yard TD run by the Hampton quarterback. Nearly three minutes later Pirates running back Elijah Burris nearly burned the turf on a 20-yard display of speed from outside the tackle to the end zone; giving Hampton a 14-0 lead over Tuskegee at the end of the first quarter.

At the top of the second quarter, Hampton began their aerial attack. The big target wide receiver Jadakis Bonds scored on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Malcolm Mays, opening the Pirates’ lead to 21-0. Tuskegee’s Ryan Nettles was picked off twice more by Hampton’s Qwashin Townsel and Michael Crawford. With six minutes to go in the half, Golden Tigers quarterback Bryson Williams found Keynon Webb for a 25-yard touchdown. Webb was a standout in Tuskegee’s loss as he caught 10 passes for 103 yards along with the score.

The second half saw more of Hampton’s “standard of excellence,” through the game’s end. Tymere Robinson added a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter as the Pirates headed to the fourth quarter up 28-10 on the Golden Tigers.

Jadakis Bonds showed out on a 48-yard score from Mays yet again, and Christopher Zellous scampered to pay dirt from 27 yards out as Hampton overwhelmed Tuskegee 42-10. The Pirates (2-0) will travel to Norfolk State (0-2) for the “Battle of the Bay” next week as Tuskegee will go to the University of West Alabama for the tiger fight on September 17.
