Richmond wins their home opener vs. St. Francis, picks up 1st win of the year 31-21 (9-10-22)

Over this past weekend, Richmond Spiders managed to defeat Saint Francis Red Flash in their home opener 31-21 grabbing their first victory in the 2022 season. By no means was this game an easy win for the Spiders, as both teams fought hard up until the last minute.

The Red Flash came out strong in the first quarter managing a 6-0 lead with two field goals. Richmond, in the second, added two touchdowns scored by Running backs Savon Smith and Aaron Dykes giving Richmond a 14-6 lead.Before the end of the half was up, St. Francis would capture an interception, and three plays later a touchdown from Makai Jackson on a 45-yard pass from QB Justin Sliwoski. Ending the first half 14-13 Spiders lead.

A Richmond field goal was the only score in the third quarter for the Spiders extending their lead 17-13 enter the 4th quarter. The Spiders scored a touchdown early in the fourth from Jasiah Williams on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Reece Udinski giving the Spiders a 24-21 advantage. But the Red Flash would stay on the Spiders’ heels scoring on Justin Sliwoski 13- yard run soon after keeping the score close 24-21.In the remaining two minutes of the game, Aaron Banks intercepted St Francis and ran for the game-winning touchdown giving the Spiders a 31-21 victory. 

In their next game, Richmond will head to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to take on Lehigh Saturday, Sept 17 at noon. The Game will be on ESPN+.
