On a cold but energetic day in “The Queen City”, we have the opening of the ACC Men’s media day tipoff. As we prepare for another year of great basketball in one of the most celebrated conferences, we investigate all the changes that will happen as the dominance is still present but there is new blood flowing through most programs and the question will be who buys in first. When we talk about buying in, we must start with the Brotherhood coming out of Durham and how Jon Scheyer has seamlessly taken the throne at Duke and started out winning the ACC tournament. With Jeremy Roach returning and taking over as the main leader for the Blue Devils, it will be more of the same as he stated the work has been put in so it’s time to execute. Many teams are looking to dethrone Duke however, many teams have new looks and will be asking for increased roles. If we look at UVA, Reese Beekman looks to lead a more athletic, easy-flowing team Tony Bennett believes this group has a chance as he gave a cool, calm, and collective explanation of his team and the expectations. However, we all know the Tony Bennett era in Charlottesville has been nothing short of great regarding his ACC record. Ryan Dunn will need to have an impact along with multiple pieces that the Cavilers have at their disposal.
The Tarheels look like they have something to prove and why not Hubert Davis is entering his 3rd season and he has 2 legacy Heels that he believes will lead the Tarheels to a more balanced attack and will have a faster pace with more shooting. Now I could go down the list of many teams and how they expect to perform this season however we all know that talking and playing are two different things. Once the season begins some teams will show us how much they have bonded through the growing process of fall camp and others will have a harder time bringing it together to keep up with some of the elite teams. This season looks to be one with action-packed hoops from top to bottom and teams are more than ready to prove themselves worthy of March with Madness come the end of the season.
