Going into every season, teams have games circled on their schedule that they feel they should win. This game against Coastal Carolina was one of those games for the Monarchs. However, ODU came out a bit flat and barely miss the mark as they loss 28-24.

The key for ODU is for them to win the turnover battle. They actually did win that battle. The Monarchs have been taking really good care of the football for the most part during the last couple of weeks. Rather it’s the Quarterback’s fault or the receiver’s, you hate to see an interception thrown. Quarterback Grant Wilson and company have been doing well in that department. Grant really played well in this game once again as he threw three touchdowns in this one. However, there was a costly fumble loss once again by the QB1 which was the only turnover they had in this game.

ODU’s defense played well in this game as well too. That has been a glaring concern for the team. However, they struggled against the run in this matchup. Running Back Ethan Vasko had his was against ODU’s front core aa he rushed for 170 yards. It’s hard to win giving up that many rushing yards. That forced ODU to get tired as Coastal Carolina was able to control the time of possession in this game. Ultimately, ODU gassing out like this caused them to commit a lot of mistakes and penalties in this game and that hurt them as well. The game shouldn’t have been as close as it was barring the circumstances so you have to tip your hat off to ODU and their coaching staff! The Monarchs will look to bounce back from this L as they visit Liberty next weekend.
