Washington D.C- As they’ve done in every game so far on the young season, Washington would lead entering the fourth but ultimately would not be able to hold on to the lead. Sunday repeated that feat as the Seattle Storm picked up its first win of the season defeating the Mystics 84-75. Washington had a huge third quarter that saw them score 30 points and lead 64-62 entering the fourth.
The Mystics offense struggled once again in the fourth quarter to generate points leading them to be outscored 22-11. Eleven of the twenty-two Storm points came from the charity strike. Both Washington and Seattle’s offenses were sloppy and unable to find their footing. Washington only managed to make four field goals and the Storm five of its own.
Jewell Loyd finished as Seattle’s top scorer with 24 points and shot 12-14 from the free-throw line. Skylar Diggins added 18 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Seattle had 20 turnovers whereas Washington finished with 16, the Storm turned that into 26 points of their own.Ariel Atkins led Washington with 19 points, and Karlie Samuelson scored 13 points making three shots from behind the arc. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough had 12 points and three steals off the bench. Brittney Sykes missed the contest after injuring her ankle against Connecticut on Friday evening. Starting Center Shakira Austin also sat out Sunday (left hip, injury management).
