Live from Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, VA, the Cavaliers take on the Boston College Eagles for their Homecoming. Virginia is looking to improve their season record to 4-1 on the year, while Boston College looks to move to 5-1. This is a showdown between two up-and-coming teams in the ACC that are looking to make some noise in the conference.

It was a slow start for the Cavaliers’ offense in the first quarter as they punted on their first 3 possessions of the game. Boston College managed to put together a scoring drive on their first possession when Thomas Castellanos connected with Jaedn Skeete on a 9-yard TD reception for the 7-0 lead. The Eagles would score again early in the second quarter after a 29-yard TD pass from Castellanos to Kamari Morales to increase their lead to 14-0. After that, UVA’s defense stepped up and locked things down from that point on. However, the Cavs’ offense still took some time to get into the end zone. Virginia would make two field goals to cut into their deficit and gain some momentum going into halftime only trailing 14-6.

To start the third quarter, UVA’s defense forced Boston College to punt on their opening possession of the second half. Although, the offense wouldn’t manage any points after reaching the 2-yard line and turning it over on downs. After another defensive stop, UVA manages to kick another field goal by Will Bettridge to make the score 14-9. On the next possession for Boston College, Chico Bennett Jr. picks off Castellanos giving the Cavs a great field position. They would take advantage of that field position, and score on a 30-yard TD pass from Anthony Colandrea to Malachi Fields for their first lead of the game. After converting on the two-point conversion, UVA took a 17-14 lead. While scrambling away from the UVA pressure, Castellanos fumbles the football which is recovered by Jonas Sanker and returned 45 yards for the touchdown. The next two offensive possessions for Boston College ended in a turnover on downs and an interception by Kendren Smith. The Cavalier defense managed to stop the Boston College offense and not allow them to score a point since their last scoring drive earlier in the second quarter. The Cavs scored 24 unanswered points to secure the win with a final score of 24-14 and move to 4-1 on the year.

In my opinion, the standout players for the Virginia Cavaliers are the entire defense because they locked down the Boston College offense, which allowed the offense to score 24 unanswered points. UVA’s next game is Saturday, October 12th against the Louisville Cardinals. Boston College’s next game is October 17th against the Virginia Tech Hokies.
