We are in a very trendy time period in life at this time. Generally, what we see one individual do, we sometimes try to duplicate it. There’s a saying in football that says “This is a copycat league.” The fact of the matter is that saying is true!
Everyone wants to be Patrick Mahomes and throw the fancy passes. Everyone wants to pass the entire game and abandon the run game. Everyone seems to be forgetting the fundamentals of just playing football.
Everyone except the ODU Monarchs seems to be forgetting the fundamentals. After a Quarterback change, this team feels different. This team looks different. As a matter of fact, this team is different.
The Monarchs are doing the two most important things it takes the win in football nowadays – playing good defense and controlling the running game and tempo.
ODU was at home over this past weekend and hosted the Texas State Bobcats. They managed to take care of business on their home field as they won 24-14.
The change at QB has had a positive change and impact on this team. Not only is Colton Joseph solid in the pocket, but he is great on the run as well. He didn’t throw and picks in this game and he also racked up over 100 rushing yards to go along with three touchdowns with his feet too.
Additionally, ODU has played stingy defense over these last couple of games. In this game, they had two interceptions and won the third down conversion battle as well.
ODU is playing old school football as they are able to run the ball well and play great defense too. That combination gives them the opportunity to control the game on both sides of the ball. It ultimately will open up the passing game for them as well. The Monarchs are playing some good football at this time!
This win secured their second victory in a row. Could they make it three in a row? Tune in as we shall see as they are set to play the Georgia Southern Eagles on Thursday October 24th at 7PM Eastern Time.
