The Night WWE Crowned Its New Monster: Femi. Orton. Chaos. SummerSlam Night 1 Delivered Pure Violence (8-1-26)

Oba Femi ends Brock Lesnar’s decade of dominance, Randy Orton nukes Cody Rhodes, and SummerSlam Night 1 in Minneapolis just rewrote the hierarchy of WWE. U.S. Bank Stadium did not host a Premium Live Event. It hosted a coronation and a public execution.

The Moment Everything Changed 

Brock Lesnar walked into Hell in a Cell as the last true monster of his generation. He left it as a ghost. Oba Femi didn’t just beat him. He finished him. After Lesnar tore the mat up and dropped Femi with a Tombstone on the exposed wood, Femi still kicked out. Then he punched the chair out of Lesnar’s hands and hit the Fall From Grace for the 1-2-3.

Eleven minutes and thirty-nine seconds of pure violence later, the most dominant part-timer in modern WWE history was flat on his back. Post-match, Lesnar stood over Femi, looked him dead in the eyes, and essentially abdicated the throne: Femi is the future. Lesnar is the past. That moment alone is going to be replayed for the next ten years. 

The Rest of the Carnage

• CM Punk is still the man. Cody Rhodes brought the fight of his life, tables were demolished, finishers were traded, and just when it looked like Rhodes had the edge, the lights hit different. Randy Orton. RKO out of nowhere. Punk hits the GTS. Title retained. The Viper is back, and he’s already started a war with the American Nightmare. 

• Liv Morgan refuses to die. She and IYO Sky opened the show with a match that belonged later on the card. Interference, Moonsaults, Oblivions…Morgan still walked out champion. The Judgment Day remains a problem.

• SoloMania is real. LA Knight, Royce Keys, and Solo Sikoa took down The Bloodline in a chaotic six-man that felt like a party. Solo is somehow more over than ever, and the Usos + Fatu just took a very public L.

• Gunther remains unbreakable. Nick Aldis’ first match in years ended the same way most of them do against the Ring General — with a submission.

• Fatal Influence keeps winning. They beat Paige and the Bella Twins, then Nikki turned on Paige while Brie just…watched. The women’s division just got messier. 

Why This Night Hits Different

Most SummerSlam Night 1s feel like the undercard to the “real” show. This one felt like the main event of the entire year so far. Oba Femi is no longer “the next big thing.” He is the thing. Randy Orton just injected pure chaos into the Undisputed title picture. And Brock Lesnar — for the first time in a long time — looked mortal. Night 2 still has Roman vs. Seth for the World Heavyweight Championship. But after what just went down in Minneapolis, that almost feels like a different show. 

SummerSlam Night 1 didn’t just deliver. It announced a new era with a steel chair and a Fall From Grace.

The Beast is gone. 

The King has arrived.
