Haskins struggles in first NFL game action, Giants dominate 24-3 (9-29-19)

The Washington Redskins have had a drama-filled 5 months. From the moment that Head Coach Jay Gruden made the statement “I won’t be around next season if we miss out on the playoffs again in 2019”, the team has seemed to be in a funk. They have had to deal with All-Pro Left Tackle Trent Williams refusing to come back to the team unless he gets a new contract or gets traded. There was the situation with Adrian Peterson being inactive as a healthy scratch in Week 1 vs. Eagles. Also, having problems to filling up FedEx Field. This week it was all about the possible firing of Jay Gruden if Washington lost to the New York Giants here in Week 4. With all that being said, the Redskins still had to travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the Giants and things would not go the way they planned.

The Giants would defeat the Redskins 24-3 for their 2nd straight win and rookie QB Daniel Jones begins his NFL career with a 2-0 record. Jones went 23-for-31 with 225 yards, one touchdown, and two inceptions. Saquon Barkley’s replacement, RB Wayne Gallman tallied 18 carries, 63 yards, and one touchdown. The real MVP in this game was the Giants defense, who captured 4 interceptions including a 32-yard pick-six from Safety Jabrill Peppers. 

Redskins QB Case Keenum started the game, but would not finish. After struggling early in-game going 6-for-11 with 37 yards and an interception, Coach Gruden would bring in Rookie QB Dwayne Haskins hoping to bring a spark to his team, but unfortunately, it would be more of the same. Haskins would throw 3 interceptions only passing for 107 yards. The offense as a whole had 176 yards and mustard only 8 first down to the Giants 24 first downs. Adrian Peterson had 11 carries for 28 yards leading Washington in rushing.  On a positive note coming out of the game for Washington, Quinton Dunbar snagged two interceptions in his return to the lineup.

Washington (0-4) leaves week 4 with more questions then they had to enter the week. Who will be the starting QB heading into the Patriots game next Sunday at FedEx Field? Can the running game come alive? Can the defense get better? Tons of questions with tons of possible answers. Only time will tell what the Redskins future holds.
