The NBA Offseason…What To Do?

By:Tyrone Montgomery Jr.

In the event of an offseason, this is time to relax. Time to fire up the grill, smoke up a few racks of ribs, some hotdogs and hamburgers, and maybe even a few steaks and pork chops. This is America, and Americans love to eat. But we need something else to go along with the food we eat, we need entertainment. We need excitement! Something that will keep our minds occupied so that we can at least have some sanity left while basketball is away for awhile. Here are a few thoughts of some good entertainment that goes perfectly with some good food.

NBA Street

Greatest Game All-Time??? Photo from Amazon.com

Do you remember NBA Street? You know, the game that allowed you to play with 3 GOATS (Michael Jordan) at the same time. The game that everyone wanted to have Ben Wallace or Yao Ming in their lineups, even Michael Finley who didn’t miss. Everybody and their mothers played this game. This game was a game that has to be one of the greatest games of all time. It was played from sunrise to sundown. Whenever you had a gathering, or maybe just a few friends over, everyone wanted to play this game. That still hasn’t changed today. But there is a problem, it was a PS2 game. We are now on a PlayStation 4, with a 5th one being rumored soon. We need this game to be remastered! Why it hasn’t happened yet is a question we all want answered. But this game definitely needs to make a return to all systems today.

Uncle Drew Review

While Kyrie didn’t play much during the regular season due to injury, he was healthy enough to shoot a movie. Uncle Drew offered up plenty of laughter, a few oos and ahhs, and a good story to go along with it all. It was nice to see guys like Shaq, Chris Webber, Nate Robinson, and Reggie Miller back on the court. And let’s not forget about our ladies, Lisa Leslie. If you’re a fan on the NBA, this is by far a must see. These guys showcased their talents on and off the basketball court. Some of them can actually still play (Nate Robinson), and while the BIG 3 is good, Nate Robinson belongs in the NBA. So if you haven’t seen it yet, please, do yourself a favor, and check out Uncle Drew. 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Space Jam 2

The only thing Kyrie has beat Lebron at is releasing a movie first. They say good things come to those who wait, greatness takes time. Now that Lebron is officially Hollywood, how long will we all have to wait for Space Jam 2? The answer to that question is still to be decided, but the movie has been confirmed for the year of 2021 and Lebron will make the sequel. Along with Lebron, we will have greats as 3X Champion Steph Curry and Blake Griffin, who created Lob City. Oh, and let’s not forget NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan will star in this movie too along with the beautiful Rosario Dawson. Will it be better than MJ’s? It definitely has the potential. Sequels struggle at times, but we are talking about The GOAT (Lebron James) here, so I can see it happening. Stay tuned ladies and gentlemen, we’re in for a good one.

Favorite Basketball Movie

After all this talk about movies, that brings me to my next question. What is your favorite basketball movie? It’s so many to choose from…

  • Glory Road
  • Space Jam
  • Above The Rim
  • Love & Basketball
  • Like Mike
  • Juwanna Mann
  • He Got Game
  • Coach Carter
  • White Men Can’t Jump
  • Celtic Pride
  • Sunset Park
  • Just Wright
  • Basketball Diaries
  • Uncle Drew
  • Hoosies
  • Hoop Dreams
  • Cornbread, Earl, & Me
  • Crossover
  • Kazaam

I can go on and on and on and on. My personal favorite is Glory Road. Based on a true story, it changed the game for the entire world both on and off the court, and it broke the racism that was amongst us all that time. It wasn’t about color. “I see quick, I see skill.” That was a quote by the belated famous coach Don Haskins. If you haven’t played basketball in awhile, watching that movie will make you want to lace up the sneakers again. The good thing is the NBA Schedule will fully be released soon. But in the meantime, there are a few things to keep us going. Let us know in the comment section which movie is your favorite basketball movie.
