Chapel Hill, NC-The first ACC Series of the season for both #12 Virginia & North Carolina would be a competitive yet solid test for both teams. Virginia was a national championship favorite coming into 2021, but a rocky start so far might change some minds on that. North Carolina on the other hand, has looked good, with a 6-1 record to start this campaign.

Game 1 in this series went to North Carolina 3-2 behind great pitching from Austin Love, who pitched seven no-hit innings. UNC’s Justice Thompson went 3-4 from the plate with a home run (2) in the victory. Game 2 would also go in North Carolina’s favor 2-1. UNC’s Johnny Castagnozzi & Angel Zarate both go 1-3 with RBI from the dish leading UNC to the victory. Game 3 Virginia, would finally get their win in the series 3-2. Led by Nic Kent’s 2-4 two-RBI effort, Virginia won their first ACC game of the year. UVA starting pitcher Mike Vasil picked up his second victory of the season (2-0) in 5 innings of work tallying 5 strikeouts in the process.

After this series, the Cavaliers are 4-3 in the young season and will take on George Washington March 2 at home in their next contest. North Carolina (6-1) will travel to Blacksburg for a 3-game series on March 5.
