Desperate times call for desperate measures. In the game of football, both players and coaches can feel when they’re on the hot seat. They know when the pressure is on and when a job may be on the line. Usually, the coach is the first one to blame and lose his or her job. At that point, you can make the argument that some particular players maybe weren’t used correctly. After getting off to such a rough start, ODU has decided to turn back to Freshman QB Hayden Wolff. We haven’t seen Wolff since Week 2 after he struggled and was relieved by QB DJ Mack Jr. Under Mack, the offense got off to late starts. He’s more of a dual-threat QB while Wolff is more of that pocket presence threat. However, even while going back to Hayden Wolff, the offense still got off to a slow start and the defense was atrocious yet again. By halftime, ODU was down 30-3 and was already looking for answers. ODU fell to Western Kentucky 43-20. This has been an ongoing issue all season long for the Monarchs. Rough starts offensively and not playing with any intensity defensively.

The Monarchs look like a team that knows the season is lost and they’re all just waiting for the offseason. ODU has lots of questions to answers. They need to address the defense first and foremost. In this game, they allowed WKU QB Bailey Zappe to throw for nearly 400 yards with 5 TDs to 4 different WR’s. The slow starts offensively don’t help either. They seem to have themselves a QB Problem. It’s almost like their trying to find their identity still. That brings us to point the finger at the HC and Coaching Staff. Ricky Rahne is still getting his feet wet. Kirk Campbell is the Offensive Coordinator and many eyebrows have been raised within this offense. Blake Seiler is the defensive coordinator. It will be interesting to see if ODU will be ready to shake things up after this season. The Monarchs have a bye week to address some of the issues they’re having but on 10/30 ODU has another home game as they host 2-4 Louisiana Tech at 3:30 PM.
