When planning for your future, it’s good to look at your present and even your past with how you got to where you’re at today. The Washington Commanders are surely planning for their future. They are a team right now that is in a good place to say the least. At this very moment, the Philadelphia Eagles are a team who aims to get back to the SuperBowl. They are a team who should make a deep run and find themselves right where they left off at last season. The Dallas Cowboys aren’t too far behind the Eagles. The Cowboys are a team that is looking to make magic happen. They are one of the best teams in the NFL right now who some people consider a borderline SuperBowl team. That is the goal for the Washington Commanders.

With that being said, the Commanders are a team trying to grow and find themselves. They have made huge strides thus far this season. They discovered their offense is certainly a capable offense in the league. With new OC Eric Bienemy, they have unlocked Sam Howell and all those weapons there despite having a struggling offensive line. They simply just need time to grow and mature.

With that being the case, should the Commanders be active at the trade deadline? If the right opportunity presents itself, the answer to that question is yes. There has been rumors of Montez Sweat and Chase Young being on the block. Young has missed multiple games due to injuries over the years but he seems like his old self again. The Commanders are trying to build a team of the future and they are the cornerstones defensively. With the Eagles and Cowboys in win now mode, the Commanders should let this thing build organically. They need to keep adding pieces through the draft and free agency and build depth. They should keep what they have and grow internally. However, if you can get a 1st round pick for them or anyone with value, then they should definitely entertain the notion. Additionally, if they can find value without having to give up a first or second round pick, they absolutely have to take the deal. The NFL Trade Deadline is October 31, 2023 at 4PM ET.
