The game of football is all about patience. Can we continue to lean upon running the ball consistently? That will open things up in the passing game, especially when it comes to play action. Can we stick to our schemes and strategies defensively after watching game film all week?
Patience and hard work was shown in ODU’s biggest win of the season last week as the Monarchs beat Georgia Southern 47-19. Things started defensively as the Monarchs forced a total of three turnovers in this game. One was turned into a turnover. However, the Monarchs didn’t stop there as they had an interception in this game too. The great thing about this game was that this was the cleanest game of the season for ODU as they didn’t commit any turnovers in this game.
ODU dominated the running game in this game as they racked up 256 yards on the ground compared to Georgia Southern’s 113. That was just the start of things as ODU also out gained the Eagles in the passing game as well. The Monarchs dominated the total yard battle 560-416. This is what happens when you win the third down conversion battle as well. ODU was on fire from start to finish in this game.
A big cause and reason for success is Quarterback Colten Joseph. It didn’t feel comfortable initially as he replaced Quarterback Grant Wilson. However, Colton Joseph is growing as a player and a leader for the Monarchs. He was the player of this game as he scored a total of five touchdowns in this contest. He also led the team in passing (304 yards) as well as out gained every player for the Eagles in rushing yards as he finished with 69. This was the perfect game for ODU. They will look to build on this three game winning streak this weekend as they hit the road to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday November 2nd at 2:30 PM.
