Randy Orton Edges Cody Rhodes, Bronson Reed Returns, and Trick Williams Regains United States Title at WWE’s First Sunday Night’s Main Event
ATLANTA — WWE made history on Sunday, September 6, 2026, with the first-ever Sunday Night’s Main Event, shifting the long-running special from its traditional Saturday slot to Labor Day weekend at State Farm Arena. The two-hour Peacock (U.S.) / YouTube (international) broadcast delivered a new United States Champion, a major surprise return, celebrity crossover action, and a hard-fought, controversial main event that keeps a major rivalry alive.
Pre-Show: AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio (with Judgment Day support) defeated Joe Hendry via pinfall after a 619 and frog splash.
Main Card results:
Lil Yachty vs. Baron Corbin (five-minute “survive and advance” challenge): Atlanta native and rapper Lil Yachty made his in-ring debut and lasted the full five minutes. Corbin dominated much of the bout, but Yachty used a low blow on the top rope as time expired. After the bell, Corbin chokeslammed Yachty through a table.
Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker: A physical, high-stakes clash billed around the “future of WWE” ended in disqualification at around 13-14 minutes. Interference from members of The Vision (including Austin Theory, Logan Paul, and Maxxine Dupri) built to the night’s biggest shock: Bronson Reed’s return after months away with injury. Reed hit Femi with a chair shot, then joined Breakker in a post-match beatdown featuring multiple Tsunamis and spears. Femi was awarded the win by DQ.
Six-woman tag — Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, & Tatum Paxley vs. Jade Cargill, Michin, & B-Fab: Cargill’s team won in roughly 9:35-9:40 when Cargill pinned Flair, extending her strong record on Main Event specials.
Main event — Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton: In a bloody, intense WrestleMania 42 rematch that ran approximately 18:30, Orton defeated Rhodes by pinfall. The finish involved multiple referee bumps; Orton delivered a low blow that affected both Rhodes and a referee before hitting an RKO for the three-count as the original official returned. The result leaves their rivalry unresolved.
Musical guest Quavo performed during the show. The card mixed established stars, rising talent, and crossover elements while advancing several key storylines heading into the fall.
Overall, the first Sunday edition of the franchise delivered title change drama, a high-impact return for The Vision, and a main-event finish designed to prolong heat between Rhodes and Orton. WWE’s next major stop is Worlds Collide, with Money in the Bank now scheduled for October.
