History On The Road Against Philadelphia 

● Washington’s record against the Eagles on the road is 44-44-2. Washington won last season’s meeting at Philadelphia in Week 18, 24-17.

Key Matchups To Watch

Washington’s O-Line vs. Philadelphia’s D-Line

The Commanders’ offensive line is without an All-Pro left tackle, Laremy Tunsil, for the majority of the season with a triceps injury. 2024 second-round pick Brandon Coleman slides into the left tackle spot, a position he started all games for in his rookie season. Center Nick Allegretti has missed out on the majority of Training Camp with a calf injury and has been unable to get quality reps with quarterback Jayden Daniels. The interior of the line could have trouble with the dominant duo of defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. The Commanders will have to play to their strengths and avoid putting linemen in one-on-one situations or at a disadvantage in pass or run protection. 

Jayden Daniels vs. Jalen Hurts

Both quarterbacks always face scrutiny and dissection from the public, media, fans, and analysts on a game-to-game basis. For Daniels, it’s all about how he looks under this newly implemented David Blough system, which will have more under center rather than primarily in shotgun or pistol.

We know Daniels has all the intangibles to be a top QB in this league; last season, he was plagued by injuries not only to himself but to his weapons around him, which forced him to constrain himself more on a play-to-play basis. This year, I expect him to be back to that 2024-25 form, starting on opening day, when you see the anticipation, IQ, accuracy & touch, calmness, and athleticism on display.

This will come down to which quarterback is comfortable and looks the part in their new system. 

Verdict

If the Commanders are going to come out with the upset win on Sunday, they’ll need to follow these five keys:

● Control the line of scrimmage on both sides

● Protect JD5

● Force turnovers

● Contain Saquon Barkley (hard ask, I know)

● Stretch the field
