NBA Free Agency: A Warrior’s Story (6-26-19)

Part of the journey is the end. The end is the sad reality that one day, we all will have to face. We have seen it with The Avengers: Endgame. Ironman (Tony Stark) was laid to rest, although he did save the day. Not only Ironman, but the great Captain America too as he let the aging process hit him to be with the love of his life, Peggy (Margaret) Carter. Even children have to go through this. Toy Story came into our lives in 1995. That was the year Woody met Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. They formed one of the best bonds anyone in this world would love to have. It started off rocky, but in the end, had an amazing finish. You can’t mention Woody without mentioning Buzz. However, they too had said goodbye. And even what may be the best show of the century, Game of Thrones. It lasted 8 seasons, and it still left fans yearning for more. It even left the cast yearning for more. Kit Harington (Jon Snow) found himself in a rehab center soon after the show ended. We all may not like the ending, but we can darn sure appreciate the journey.

NBA Free Agency is quickly approaching. The Dynasty of the Golden State Warriors may have reached its ending. Kevin Durant has opted out of his $31.5M contract as he had a Player Option. The 10X All-star is now an unrestricted free agent. Klay Thompson is also an unrestricted free agent too. In all reality, the Warriors would love to keep both All-Stars, but they especially would want to keep Kevin Durant, despite his Achilles injury. Durant has been a player that was described as being the best player in the league this past season. But will this devastating Achilles injury tarnish this reputation? Well, the odds are against him. Out of Five notable players that suffered this same injury (Kobe Bryant/Demarcus Cousins/Elgin Baylor/Patrick Ewing/Dominique Wilkins), only one of them managed to have a strong bounce back season (Dominique Wilkins). However, teams and GM’s around the league have strong faith in Durant. The Knicks, Nets, Clippers, Warriors (of course), and even the Lakers are still trying to sign KD to a super max contract.

With Durant now a free agent, Durant’s Management Group are now evaluating what would be the best move this summer. Part of the journey is the end, and this may be the ending of wonderful journey in Golden State.
