Redskins hold off 49ers in a Tight One in DC!

The San Francisco 49ers marched in to FedEx Field to take on the Washington Redskins in Week 6. San Francisco came in to this game look for win number one in this 2017 NFL Campaign. With a record 0 wins 5 losses, the 49ers 1st year Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, has put his young football team in a position to win every week. Nevertheless, the 49ers have not been able to pull it off, losing each the last four games by three points or less and the last two in overtime.
The Washington Redskins entered week 6 coming off of a bye and with a 2-2 record.Despite having injuries to starters Josh Norman & Robert Kelley, the Redskins have still been able to play solid football so far this season. Kirk Cousins has really grown into the role as the leader of the Washington Redskins and it showed here in Week 6.
The 49ers won the coin toss in this game and decided to defer to the Redskins to start this game. Cousins would lead the Skins on a 8 play, 75 yard drive that ended with a 11 yard touchdown to Josh Doctson & a Redskins 7-0 lead. Both teams would trade punts on the next five possessions before and the Redskins will go on a 10 play, 64 yard drive where rookie running back Samaje Perine, would get into the end zone early in the 2nd quarter given the Redskins a 14-0 lead. 49ers starting quarterback Brian Hoyer struggle in this game with only 34 yards passing & a QB rating of 45.3, so the Niners would turn to Rookie Quarterback CJ Beathard towards the end of 2nd Quarter. Despite the switch, The Redskins would tack on a Dustin Hopkins field goal to expand the score to 17-0. Just when you thought the Niners were out of this game, Carlos Hyde put the 49ers on the board with 1-yard touchdown run to end the first half and Redskins went in to halftime with the lead 17-7.
The second half started off bad for Washington, after a punt & a fumble by tight end Vernon Davis, San Francisco would fight back to tie this game at 17 a piece after a field goal and another Carlos Hyde 1-yard touchdown. Washington would answer quickly with a field goal and a Kirk Cousins touchdown run in the 4th Qtr giving, Washington 26-17 lead. On the next drive, Beathard drives the 49ers down the field in less then two minutes and hooks up with Aldrick Robinson, a 45-yard touchdown pass. Unfortunately, it was too little to late, the 49ers would run out time and lose there 6 straight game 26 to 24.
The Redskins would move their record to 3-2 and puts them in second place in the NFC East. Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins are heading to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles on Monday Night Football in Week 7, in a battle for first place in the NFC East. The 49ers going to Week 7 to take on the Dallas Cowboys, but the question at hand is …Will they be able to finally get win number one in the Kyle Shanahan era. With the heart the Niners have shown this season they can’t be far away from that special victory. But the big question next week how was CJ Beathard do in a big game against the Cowboys only time will tell.
