Welcome back to the RJ Sports Lounge today we will be discussing the Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas Chiefs. The teams have played each other nine times since 1972, the Chiefs lead the all-time series 5-4. The Chiefs have won three straight, the Eagles’ last win against Kansas City dates back to September 27, 2009.

The teams come into this Superbowl with high-octane offenses, as well as defenses that are very good. The Eagles in particular led the NFL in sacks with 70, while the Chiefs were second with 55 during the regular season. The teams not only feature impressive defensive players, but they also feature two very good quarterbacks who are making history as the first two African American quarterbacks to meet in the Superbowl.

Jalen Hurts is a former second-round pick who came into his own in the 2022 season. Hurts threw for 3,701 yards with twenty-two touchdowns and only six interceptions. Hurts also ran for 760 yards and ran for 13 touchdowns.

His counterpart Patrick Mahomes continues his Hall of Fame track at the age of 27. Even after losing his number one receiver Tyreek Hill, Mahomes threw for 5,250 yards with forty-one touchdowns and only twelve interceptions. Mahomes rushed for nearly 400 yards with four touchdowns on the ground.

The quarterbacks both have great numbers and will get most of the publicity during the week leading up to the big game in Arizona. However, the biggest key in this game will come down to the running game.

The Eagles ran for thirty-two rush touchdowns during the regular season, while the Chiefs only had 18. The Eagles dominated both of their opponents in the playoffs with the running game.
The Eagles will look to continue this trend on Sunday, Hurts has not been himself with the shoulder injury so it will be important for the Eagles to establish the running game.
Mahomes gutted out the AFC Championship game with a high ankle sprain. The Chiefs running game is not as strong as the Eagles, however, it can cause some issues with the athletic backs that the Chiefs have.

Now you ask what is my prediction for the game? I originally picked the Eagles to win big, but I think the game will be a lot more competitive. You can find out on my show RJ Sports Lounge live on Facebook Friday, February 10th. Exclusively on the Legacy Maker Sports Network Facebook page.
