NL West Spotlight : 2017 Colorado Rockies
By:Adam Falls
The Colorado Rockies entering July 30th with a record of 59-45 which is third in the NL West and are tied for first with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL Wild Card. We all know about the household names on the Rockies, led by MVP candidate third baseman Nolan Arenado, Mark Reynolds, and Carlos Gonzalez who’s not having a “CarGo” type year by any stretch. The pitching staff won’t scare anyone Antonio Senzatela and Kyle Freeland lead the staff with 10 wins. Freeland also leads the staff with a 3.64 ERA. When they get to the 9th inning with the lead go ahead and call mom and tell her you will be home for dinner!!! Greg Holland has 31 saves and a stingy 1.72 ERA. The Rockies led by manager Bud Black and former Miami Marlins Catcher and bench coach Mike Redmond have this team looking for a spot in the playoffs.
The Rockies have not been in the playoffs since 2009, win they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 in the Division Series. The Rockies last World Series appearance came in 2007 when they were swept by the Boston Red Sox 4-0. The Rockies are 31-19 this year at Coors Field and only 27-26 away from home. If the Rockies win the one game wild card which more than likely will be against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They will face the team in the NL with the most wins which we all know will be the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With two months left in the season a lot of things can change but in my opinion this is how its going to go down. The 2017 NL West Division has been interesting and the last two months will be the Rockies and the Diamondbacks fighting for the first wild card spot and the crucial home field advantage in the winner take all game. Either way, the Rockies have had a surprising season that no one saw coming. The 2017 Colorado Rockies are a refreshing sight in a runaway NL West.
