Mystics stay hot, defeat Wings 86-62 (6-9-19)

On Sunday June 9th ,the (3-1) Washington Mystics battle the (0-3) Dallas Wings at the Entertainment and Sports Arena for Washington’s 3rd home game. The Mystics are currently on a three-game win streak looking to make it four at home. While the Dallas Wings are looking to upset the Mystics on their home court in order to get their first win of the season. 

To Begin the game the Dallas Wings, win’s the tip but after a quick turnover Kristi Toliver puts the Washington Mystics on the scoreboard first with a three pointer. Natasha Cloud followed with a three of her own during the Washington Mystics next offensive possession. With a little over five minutes left in the first quarter, the Dallas Wings took their first lead of the quarter by 2 with a score of 10 to 8. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 20 to 15 with the Dallas Wings with the lead. With Elena Delle Donne and Natasha Cloud leading in scoring for the Washington Mystics with five a piece, and Brooke McCarthy-Williams and Azura Stevens leading in scoring for Dallas Wings with six a piece.

Early in the second quarter the Mystics are again the first to score with Aerial Powers with a quick two points off the glass. With eight minutes left in the quarter, Aerial Powers ties up the game. Tianna Hawkins gives the Mystics their first lead of the 2nd quarter with seven minutes left in the half. At the half the Washington Mystics ended up with a six-point lead with a half time score of 40 to 34. The leading scorers at the half for both teams where Natasha Cloud with 10 points for Washington and Glory Johnson with 11 points for Dallas.

In the beginning of the third, Dallas came out aggressive and looking to turn things around with being the first to score in the second half with a layup from Isabelle Harrison. However, with some big plays in the third and with the Mystics playing together as a team, they ended up with their biggest lead of the game with a little over two minutes left in the third quarter, following another three made by Natasha Cloud. At the end of the third quarter, the Mystics kept the lead with a score of 56 to 46.

As the fourth quarter begins, Imani McGee-Stafford is the first to score from the Dallas Wings. With less than 2 minutes left in the game, Alena Delle Donne gives the Mystics their largest lead of the game with them being up by 20 points. At the end of the game, the Washington Mystics win with a final score of 86 to 62. The Washington Mystics leading scorers where Tianna Hawkins with 21 points and Aerial Powers with 18 points. The Washington Mystics ended up winning a well-deserved game at home giving them a four-game winning streak. Mystics will next face the Connecticut Sun on the road on Tuesday June 11, 2019 at 7pm and Dallas will had home to take on the Indiana Fever on Thursday June 13th at 8pm.
