The Washington Commanders (3-4) traveled to Indianapolis to take on the Colts (3-3-1) in Week 8 of the NFL season. The Commanders are coming off two straight wins both wins vs NFC North opponents, the Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers. Both games were tight contests but the Commanders pulled off the victories. After the Bears game, Washington would lose starting QB Carson Wentz 4-6 weeks to a thumb injury. Some thought this would be a major blow to the Commanders, then here comes Taylor Heinicke who is beloved by his teammates. What does Heinicke do…knock off the Green Bay Packers for the 3rd game-win of the year.

This matchup would be the “Battle of #4”, as Taylor Heinicke would take on new Colts starter Sam Ehlinger. The first points of this game didn’t come until 14:13 in the second quarter when Chase McLaughlin kicked a 46-yard field goal to give the Colts the early 3-0 lead. A few minutes later the Commanders would strike on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Heinicke to Antonio Gibson leading to a 7-3 Commanders lead.

The Colts would score 13 unanswered points on 2 Chase McLaughlin field goals (39,20) and a Nyheim Hines 6-yard touchdown run. With the Colts being up 16-7 it was time for Washington to take command. Late in the fourth quarter, Joey Slye would knock in a 28-yard field goal to bring the Commanders a little closer to 16-10. Washington would have possession on their final drive of the game and it would be a clutch performance. A 9-play, 89-yard drive, which included a huge play from Terry McLaurin. McLaurin caught a 33-yard pass from Taylor Heinicke to put Washington at the Colts’ 1-yard line. Then Heinicke would run a QB sneak into the end zone, giving Washington the 17-16 victory.

Washington now with a 4-4 record and on a 3-game winning streak, Will take on the red-hot Minnesota Vikings next Sunday at home at 1 pm. The biggest storyline of this game will be the return of Kirk Cousins to the FedEx field. This will be a fun one.
