On a Sunday where the local towns might have just shut down for the championship game, top-seed North Carolina State takes on number three-seed Duke to be named ACC tournament champion. The first quarter looked like the Wolfpacks as the big three got started early Saniya Rivers got started with a layup and then Zoie Brooks hit a floater, and the final piece was Aziaha James hitting a three after taking a charge and providing an assist. The balanced attack kept Duke on their heels as they trailed 19-10 after the first quarter. In the second Duke would start to attack the glass. With a platoon change and a rotation of 10 players, Kara Lawson’s sisterhood has come to life, and looks like they played 7 players over 15 minutes which led to a 29-0 bench advantage along with the rebounding.
Ashlon Jackson and Oluchi Okananwa each had 22 points to lead the Blue Devils to Kara Lawson’s first ACC championship with a 76-62 victory over N.C. State. Oluchi Okananwa was your tournament MVP coming off the bench proving to be consistent and efficient with her playing time and this Duke team is starting to find their stride.
