Do the Houston Texans Have The Right Man at Quarterback?

One question many may begin to wonder this season is do the Houston Texans have the right quarterback in C.J. Stroud? On one hand, Stroud enters his third season with a lot of physical talent, arm strength, poise and a history of success. He showed glimpses of that potential this year, like when he threw for a season-high 318 yards and two touchdowns in the absence of his top receiver.  On the other hand, the consistency isn’t quite there. His passer rating, touchdowns and interception numbers have dipped compared to earlier expectations.

Moreover, factors around him such as offensive line protection, wide-receiver availability, lack of playmakers and play-calling have at times limited his ability to shine every week. Outside observers and fans note that the environment may be suppressing his growth. So, do they have the right quarterback? I’d argue yes, but with a caveat: Stroud is the right foundational quarterback for the Texans going forward, but he isn’t fully hitting his ceiling yet. The team needs to ensure the supporting cast and offensive scheme give him the chance to perform consistently at a high level. If those pieces fall into place, Stroud will look like the long-term answer in Houston.

The Chicago Bears Are Quietly Making Noise

The Chicago Bears appear to be quietly emerging as a legitimate playoff contender this season. Under second-year QB Caleb Williams, the team has shown the kind of winning grit that can define a breakout campaign. Although Williams hasn’t always drawn headlines, his steady production and improved poise suggest he’s operating at an MVP-caliber level. Despite a roster hit with injuries and some continued debate over play-calling, the Bears have kept finding ways to win this season. The offensive line has improved, and Williams is responding favorably as he is leading the way for the Bears.

What’s so compelling is how the Bears are doing this quietly. They actually have a shot at winning their division this season. They’re not yet a headline, but they’re showing up. Williams’ emerging consistency, combined with flashes of big-game poise and a coaching staff that seems finally aligned with the talent, gives Chicago real momentum. Rome Odunze looks like a pro bowler this season as he has emerged as the go-to player for this team. If they can maintain health and sharpen the play-calling even just a little, this team could surprise many and make a deep push when it counts.
