Are We Sleeping on the Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks may be the most overlooked contender in the NFL this season, and that oversight could come back to haunt the rest of the league. While much of the national conversation has centered on flashier teams, Seattle has quietly gone about its business, winning consistently and stacking quality victories against some of the NFL’s best. That steady success has them sitting atop the NFC, yet they’re rarely mentioned as a true Super Bowl threat. A major reason for that stability has been quarterback Sam Darnold. Picking up where he left off after a strong stint in Minnesota last year, Darnold has simply held down the fort. He hasn’t needed to be spectacular every week; instead, he’s been efficient, composed, and capable of making big throws when the moment demands it.
That reliability has allowed the Seahawks to play complementary football and avoid the self-inflicted mistakes that derail many teams. What truly makes Seattle dangerous, though, is its depth and health. This is a deep roster with contributors on both sides of the ball, and they’ve been fortunate to remain relatively healthy down the stretch—something few NFL teams can say. When January arrives, availability and balance matter as much as star power. If that’s the case, we may be sleeping on the Seahawks as legitimate Super Bowl contenders hiding in plain sight.
Panthers Continue to Prowl
The Carolina Panthers are quietly rolling this season, and the rest of the NFC South is starting to take notice. Long viewed as a rebuilding team, Carolina now looks like the class of the division, with a legitimate chance to win the NFC South and return to the playoffs for the first time in quite a while. Their steady rise has been one of the more surprising and encouraging storylines in the conference. What stands out most about the Panthers is that they don’t even look like a finished product yet. Bryce Young has shown growth, poise, and leadership, but it still feels like he has another level to reach. That’s exactly what makes this team so intriguing.
Even without a true, dominant No. 1 weapon at receiver, the offense has found ways to move the ball and control games. Defensively, Carolina has been competitive, but there is still room to grow. If the Panthers continue adding pieces on that side of the ball and give Young a reliable top target, their ceiling rises dramatically. Just as important, the chemistry between the players and coaching staff appears strong and sustainable. This feels like a team on the rise, not just for this season but for years to come. And if they sneak into the playoffs, don’t be surprised if the Panthers shock someone in the first round.
