The Roanoke Dawgs found themselves in an early hole and never recovered Saturday night, as the Quad City Storm delivered a relentless offensive performance in an 8–1 win.
Quad City set the tone almost immediately, scoring less than a minute into the game when Devin Sanders beat the Roanoke netminder to give the visitors a quick lead. Moments later, a Dawgs penalty put the Storm on the power play, and Sanders struck again to double the advantage before Roanoke had time to settle in.
The opening frame quickly turned into a parade to the penalty box for both teams, but Quad City’s penalty kill stood tall while Roanoke struggled to generate sustained offense. Despite multiple chances, the Dawgs couldn’t break through, and the Storm carried their 2–0 lead into the intermission firmly in control.
Any hopes of a Roanoke push in the middle frame faded quickly. Quad City successfully killed off a brief two-man advantage to open the period and then seized momentum for good. Lief Mattson extended the lead, and shortly after, Denver Craig added another to make it 4–0. The quick scoring burst forced Roanoke to turn to Gabe Rosek in goal in hopes of slowing the surge.
Instead, the game grew more physical and more one-sided. A heated scrum led to the ejections of Bryce Martin and Brodie Girod, further underscoring the mounting frustration for the Dawgs. While Roanoke briefly found a spark when Tim Manning rifled a shot top shelf to get the home side on the board, Quad City answered almost instantly.
Sanders completed his hat trick before Manning’s goal announcement had even finished echoing through the arena, then added another moments later as the Storm continued to pour it on. When Quad City earned a lengthy two-man power play later in the period, Sanders struck again for his fifth goal of the night, pushing the game firmly out of reach at 7–1 heading into the final frame.
Roanoke managed to kill an early penalty in the third period, but the Storm never relinquished control. Mitchell Haight added one more goal late to cap the scoring and seal a dominant 8–1 victory for Quad City.
For Roanoke, the night was defined by early defensive lapses, missed power-play opportunities, and a Storm offense that simply never let up. For Quad City, it was a statement performance fueled by special teams success and a career night from Sanders, whose five-goal outing powered the rout from start to finish.
