INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Marvin Bagley III scored a season-high 23 points to go along with 14 rebounds, one steal, and a block in a 108-89 victory on the road against the Indiana Pacers. That was Bagley’s second double-double performance of the season.
Bagley III made his sixth straight start for the injured Alex Sar, who’s been tending to a thigh injury he hasn’t yet progressed from to do live work at practice, Varun Shankar of the Washington Post said.
The second quarter is where the Wiz (4-20) created separation. They used a 16-5 run towards the end of the quarter to create a double-digit lead, which guided them to a 58-47 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Indiana (6-20) cut the Washington lead down to as little as eight in the quarter after a Pascal Siakam basket at the 7:16 mark.
CJ McCollum proceeded to hit two threes that resulted in the Wizards scoring the next seven points which increased the lead back to double-digits. McCollum scored 10 in this quarter alone.
D.C controlled the game the rest of the way, taking its largest lead of 22 points at one point in the fourth quarter.
The Wizards had five other double-digit scorers: McCollum (18 points), Tre Johnson (14 points), Justin Champagnie (13 points), Will Riley (12 points), and Bub Carrington (11 points).
Bennedict Mathurin led all Pacers’ scorers with 15 points, while Jay Huff scored 13 and Jarace Walker added 12 off the bench.
Champagnie had a great performance securing his first double-double of the season (13 points and 14 rebounds). He also had a game-high plus-26 rating when on the floor.
Indiana was held to a season-low from behind the arc, shooting 10-of-39 (26%) and from the floor, 31-of-84 (37%), highlighting the dominant performance from the Wizards which helped end their four-game losing skid.
