Virginia State rolls past Elizabeth City State 41-19! Moves record to 3-2 on the 2018 Season!

Ettrick,VA-Rogers Stadium had football in the air on a warm Saturday afternoon as the Elizabeth City State Vikings came to town to face the home team Virginia State Trojans. Fans, Students and fellow athletes were in attendance of the collegiate football showdown, which turned into a dominating performance from Virginia State.

Both teams scored touchdowns on their opening drives– VSU’s Demetrius Strickland rushed in from 13 yards out, and ECSU QB Kedri Patterson found Dajuan Green for a seven-yard score. From then on, Cordelral Cook lived up to his name, serving ECSU a platter of overwhelming defeat. The VSU Junior Quarterback ended with two rushing touchdowns, and two more through the air on the way to a 41-19 victory.

Going into the fourth quarter, the score read VSU 27- ECSU 19. Though the Vikings closed the gap to a one score lead, Virginia State put the nail in the coffin with a Daniel Reid nine-yard rushing touchdown and a 21- yard passing score from Cook to Olivier. VSU gained 421 yards of total offense en route to a 41- 19 win.

After Cook’s 16-yard  and seven-yard TD runs and TD pass to Joshua Harris, the trojans led ECSU at the end of the first half 27-12. Elizabeth City State attempted to get back in the game with stellar third-quarter defense and a second touchdown connection from Patterson to Green. 

Neither team performed well on third down, as they combined for 5-26 on first down conversions. Virginia State’s balanced attacked led to the win, while Elizabeth City State will try to figure out its passing game after a 8-28 performance from Kedri Patterson. Next week Elizabeth City State, 1-3, will face Lincoln University, who was demoralized by a 90-0 defeat to Virginia Union Saturday. Virginia State, 3-2 will travel to Bowie State to face the 4-2 Bulldogs for their homecoming matchup.
