Redskins make comeback attempt, but Bears prevail 31-15 on Monday Night Football (9-23-19)

It was under the lights on Monday night for the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears. Washington came into this game with 0-2 record, coming off a 31-21 loss to hated rival the Dallas Cowboys. The Redskins struggled to stay consistent vs. Dallas, once again their struggles came on defense. Not having starters Jonathan Allen, Quinton Dunbar and Fabian Moreau didn’t help the situation. The Chicago Bears had a 1-1 record entering Monday Night Football. The Bears grabbed there first victory of the 2019 season last week versus a very competitive Denver Broncos team. The biggest thing Chicago may have found is a reliable placekicker in Eddy Piñeiro, who knocked in the game-winning Field Goal last week. This Monday Night Football contest, the Bears wouldn’t need the foot of Eddy Piñeiro to win this one, you could thank Former Redskins & Packers Safety HaHa Clinton-Dix and the rest of the Bears defense for that.

The Redskins would struggle once again to stay consistent, as the Bears would win 31-15. The Bears got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 28-0 lead. Bears Safety HaHa Clinton-Dix would snag 2 interceptions, one of those he took 37 yards to the house for the first touchdown of the game. Bears QB Mitch Trubisky & WR Taylor Gabriel were on fire, connecting on 3 touchdowns. Trubisky went 25-for-31 for 231 yards & 116.5 QBR. Gabriel had 6 receptions & 75 yards. So after two weeks of struggling on the offensive side of the ball to open the season, it seems the Bears could be starting to click again.

Washington would make a late push to make a comeback, but their dreams would be cut short deep in Bears territory. On 4th and 1 at the Chicago 17-yard line with 7:02 left in the 4th Quarter & the score 28-15, Case Keenum would try a QB sneak but would fumble the ball and Chicago would take over, run the clock out & win the game. Once again there were a few bright spots for the Redskins. Terry McLaurin became the first player in NFL history to register five-plus receptions and one touchdown reception in three consecutive games to start a career. McLaurin finished the game with 6 receptions, 70 yards & a touchdown. Paul Richardson grabbed 8 receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown. 

Washington (0-3) travels to New York next week to take on division foe the Giants (1-2) with the hopes of getting back on track this season. Chicago (2-1) will host Minnesota (2-1) in an NFC North battle.
