William & Mary outlasted the Albany 31-24, moving them to 4-1 on the season (10-9-21)

The William & Mary Tribe outlasted the Albany Great Danes 31-24, outscoring the opposition 28-3 moving them to 4-1 on the season making coach Mike London’s birthday that much sweeter. In the first half the Great Danes looked to be in control of the football game, they did what they want when they wanted. The Tribe looked completely flat coming out the gates. This allowed the visitors to take a commanding 21-3 going into the half.


The Great Danes got two touchdown passes to from Joey Carino in the first half, along with a touchdown run from Karl Mofer who has struggled in 2021 but rushed for more than 1,200 in 2019. He showed up for this game with twenty-five carriers for 126 yards and that one score.The Great Danes who had been giving up 31.5 points per game looked to be in control, but their excitement about getting their first win might have cost them that chance. The Tribe came out in the second half with a point to prove to their opponent.Martin Lucas scored on a three-yard touchdown run with 9:23 left to go in the third quarter, one minute and eighteen seconds later the Great Danes could not get to a high snap over the head of Sean Ralls that was recovered by Alex Washington in the end zone. The Tribe trailed by four at 21-17.


Transitioning to the fourth quarter the Tribe scored just five seconds in, Darius Wilson connected with Lachlan Pitts for the eleven-yard touchdown to take a 24-21 lead. Lucas added another touchdown, this time a three-yard scamper putting the Tribe up 31-21 with eight minutes to go, set up by Wilson to Pitts on a tight window throw. The Great Danes added a field goal with just under five minutes to go to cut the margin down to seven.The Tribe had to fight to hold the Great Danes out of the end zone down the wire, Ethan Yip came up clutch with a pass breakup on second and goal with zeros on the clock.
The Tribe moved to 4-1 on the season, they will be at Maine next Saturday and then back home on October 23rd for a showdown with Towson. The Great Danes are now 0-5 on the season.

Nate Lynn and the defense come up big in the second half. Lynn had three tackles and two sacks. He now has 5.5 sacks on the year.
