The Monarchs have returned from their week off. They had a rightfully earned bye week after defeating Southern Miss on the road. This past week, they returned home and hosted Appalachain State. Both teams came in equally matched as they both had a 3-3 record. Someone was going to come out of this game a game under .500. On the other end of things, someone else was going to come out a game over .500. The Monarchs have had an up and down season to say the least. The offense has looked good one week. The following week, the offense struggled and the defense has looked impressive. It has been a game of musical chairs for the Quarterback position as well. Grant Wilson has been the unofficial guy for ODU. However, we have seen a little bit of Jack Shields as well.

It seems that Grant Wilson has officially taken over the starting Quarterback role and after returning from this bye week, it seems as if the Monarchs have finally figured something out as they defeated Appalachain State 28-21. Being at home helped them in this game. However, they only gave up 21 points. That is huge for this team as ODU has struggled defensively for the greater half of the season. They were able to get to Appalachain State’s QB Joey Aguilar forcing him to fumble twice in this game. Additionally, ODU played a flawless and perfect game offensively as they didn’t commit a single turnover in this contest. They passed the ball well and ran the ball effectively too. They will get a true test next week as they visit the undefeated and #25 ranked James Madison Dukes next week Saturday at 8PM.
