On July 12, 2025, WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event electrified the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, marking the 40th edition of the iconic special event series. The show delivered a blend of nostalgia, high-stakes championship matches, and unexpected twists, headlined by WWE Hall of Fame inductee Goldberg’s final match. The event, hosted by commentators Joe Tessitore and WWE legend Jesse “The Body” Ventura, lived up to its billing as a must-see spectacle, with storylines setting the stage for SummerSlam and Evolution.

Match Card:

Randy Orton w/ Jelly Roll vs Drew McIntyre w/ Logan Paul

United States Championship match:

Solo Sikoa (c) vs Jimmy Uso

Seth Rollins vs LA Knight

World Heavyweight Championship match:

Gunther (c) vs Goldberg

Randy Orton def. Drew McIntyre

The opening bout saw Randy Orton, accompanied by music star Jelly Roll, take on Drew McIntyre, who was accompanied by former U.S. Champion Logan Paul. The match echoed their intense rivalry from 2020, with both competitors unleashing signature moves. McIntyre nearly secured the victory with a Claymore Kick, but a distraction from Logan Paul sparked chaos ringside. Paul’s shoving of Jelly Roll led to a retaliation shove from the musician, momentarily diverting McIntyre’s attention. Orton capitalized with a perfectly timed RKO, pinning McIntyre for the win. Post-match, Paul attacked Orton, but Jelly Roll intervened with a forearm strike. McIntyre retaliated with a Claymore Kick to Jelly Roll, prompting Raw General Manager Adam Pearce to reprimand him. Backstage, Orton and Jelly Roll challenged McIntyre and Paul to a tag team match at SummerSlam, signaling a continuation of the celebrity-infused feud.

Solo Sikoa (c) def. Jimmy Uso—United States Championship Match

Solo Sikoa, accompanied by his “MFT” crew, defended his newly won United States Championship against his brother, Jimmy Uso, in a family-driven clash. This marked Jimmy’s first-ever singles championship opportunity in WWE. Jimmy started strong with strikes and a suicide dive, taking out Sikoa at ringside. He climbed the top rope for a crossbody, but Sikoa countered with an uranage for a near fall. The MFT’s interference, including a distraction by Talla Tonga, shifted momentum. This would result in Sikoa securing the victory with his Samoan Spike. Post-match, Fatu’s emergence signaled his intent to reclaim the U.S. Championship, setting up a potential rematch at SummerSlam.

LA Knight def. Seth Rollins

The highly anticipated clash between LA Knight and Seth “Freakin” Rollins, fueled by weeks of animosity following Rollins’ Money in the Bank victory with help from Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, was cut short by an unfortunate injury. Rollins targeted Knight’s midsection early, but Knight fought back with a top-rope elbow drop. As the match intensified, Rollins attempted a springboard moonsault, only to land awkwardly and injure his right knee. Medical officials briefly halted the action to check on him. Despite the injury, Rollins continued, but Knight quickly capitalized with his Blunt Force Trauma (BFT) finisher for the win. Post-match, Rollins was helped backstage, limping heavily, raising concerns about his status for upcoming events.

Gunther (c) def. Goldberg—World Heavyweight Championship Match

The main event saw Goldberg, competing in his final match after a 28-year career, challenge World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in front of his hometown Atlanta crowd. The feud ignited at Bad Blood 2024 when Gunther insulted Goldberg and his son, Gage, leading to this dream match. Despite entering the match with legitimate knee and shoulder injuries, Goldberg showed flashes of his WCW dominance, leveling Gunther with shoulder blocks and shrugging off the champion’s signature chops. A high-risk moment saw Goldberg spear through the ringside barricade after Gunther sidestepped. Gunther targeted Goldberg’s braced knee, methodically wearing down the legend. Goldberg rallied with a spinebuster, but the effort further strained his leg. Gunther continued to brutalize Goldberg before placing him in a sleeper hold, forcing Goldberg to pass out, securing the victory. Post-match, fans saw Goldberg along with his friends and family in the ring as he delivered an emotional speech as the show went off the air.

Non-Match Highlight: Evolution 2 Build-Up

During a ringside segment, Jade Cargill was attacked by Naomi, sparking a chaotic brawl. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis intervened, announcing that their scheduled match at Evolution 2 (July 13, 2025) would feature Bianca Belair as the special guest referee, marking her return to WWE television. The altercation highlighted tensions among the women’s division’s “Big Three,” setting up a high-stakes encounter.

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event was a fitting blend of legacy and forward momentum. Goldberg’s retirement match delivered a satisfying conclusion to his storied career, while the undercard set up compelling narratives for SummerSlam and Evolution 2. Despite the setback of Seth Rollins’ injury, the event showcased WWE’s ability to balance nostalgia with contemporary storytelling. With Jacob Fatu’s return, Bianca Belair’s reemergence, and the brewing Orton/McIntyre-Paul/Jelly Roll, the road to SummerSlam promises to be action-packed.
